Nawabi Rui (rohu in a thick white gravy) Recipe. Nawabi Rui is a lip smacking fish curry recipe. It very much goes well with Bengali style fried rice or pulao or steamed rice.

Ingredients of Nawabi Rui (rohu in a thick white gravy)
- Prepare 4 of big pieces of rohu fish marinated with salt and lemon juice.
- Prepare 1/2 of an onion paste.
- Prepare 1 tablespoon of ginger garlic paste.
- It’s 4 tablespoons of full fat plain yoghurt.
- Prepare 1 tablespoon of cashew-poppy seed paste.
- You need 1 teaspoon of resin paste.
- Prepare 1/2 teaspoon of red chilli powder.
- You need 1 teaspoon of nutmeg powder.
- You need of Whole garam masala-.
- You need 1 of bay leaf.
- Take 2 of cinnamon sticks.
- Prepare 6 of cardamoms.
- Take 4 of pepper corns.
- Take 2 of dried red chilli.
- Make ready 1 teaspoon of garam masala powder.
- Prepare 1 teaspoon of keora water.
- Prepare to taste of Ghee.
- Take of Mustard oil.
So I found this fish which is called Carp.It has almost the same taste as the Rohu fish, it's a strong alternative for Rohu lovers.I get them live from store aquarium and it's really cheap sometime.During the monsoon season, the Rohu fish gives eggs once in a year.
Nawabi Rui (rohu in a thick white gravy) instructions
- Fry the marinated fish lightly till it's slightly golden.
- In the same oil add the whole garam masala and dired red chillies.
- Add the onion paste.
- Add salt to taste and fry till it becomes slightly golden.
- Add the ginger garlic paste and fry for 1 min in low flame.
- Whisk the yoghurt so that it s not lumpy with a little flour or maida (this mitigates further curdling if any) and then add it to the pan on low flame.
- Add the cashew-poppy seed paste.
- Add the resin paste.
- Add the red chilli powder and fry for 1 min more.
- Add the fish and mix well.
- Add very little warm water. We want a thick consistency so don't put too much.
- Cover and let the fish cook.
- When it's done and the right consistency of of the gravy is reached, add the garam masala nutmeg powder and the keora water.
- Garnish with ghee on top.
- Serve with steamed rice.
